Papaya Young Creators 2022 Winners Announced

The final award ceremony of the 9th Edition of Papaya Young Creators competition took place on Wednesday, June 22 at the Norblin Factory. During the event, the winners were announced. The jury of this year's edition awarded 10 prizes, 1 honorable mention, and 4 special prizes. Meet the winners of this year's categories: Music Stories, Branded Stories, TikTok Branded Stories, TikTok Unique Stories and Audio Stories by Audioteka x Papaya.Rocks.

The Final Gala took place at the inspiring Norblin Factory in Warsaw's Wola district and was the culmination of several months of work by young filmmakers - participants of the Papaya Young Creators competition. As part of the competition, advertising films were created for brands (AGH, Amica, DPD, Modivo, Onet, Philips, Play, Porsche, Żabka), TikTok, as well as music videos and audio series.

Apart from the finalists’ film screenings, which took place in the new KinoGram cinema, event attendees got to participate in several other attractions such as Speakers Spotlights on the FoodTown stage, an afterparty in the Art Box Experience, and a silent disco powered by TikTok. 

The award for Best Film in the Branded Stories category was given to Rosie May Bird Smith for the film "Herd Immunity", prepared for Onet. The London-based filmmaker was also awarded Best Director.

However, it’s Hubert Patynowski that took home the most honors and awards (4 total) for his music video "Gold Shit" for the song "Barbara" by Jansky. “Gold Shit” was awarded Best Picture in the Music Stories category, Best Original Idea, as well as two special selection awards from our partners.

The work of the Jansky band was also an inspiration for another awarded film, "Ages", which was directed by Joanna Różniak and won Best Editing for Aleksandra Kasprowicz’s work.

In the TikTok categories debuting this year, the main awards went to films with important, universal messages. “Sleeping”, a social campaign of Onet # nieczekam107lat directed by Anna Ryń and Monika Dróżdż, was awarded Best Film in the TikTok Branded Stories category. In the TikTok Unique Stories category, the award was given to Kacper Potępski for the production of "Otherness, Individuality, Diversity".

There were two award winners in the Audio Stories by Audioteka x Papaya Rocks category. The award for Best Idea was given to Adrian Dulnik for the script "Detektyw Szarada i Śmietanka Towarzyska RP", and to Hanka Dziubińska-Kopka as an Honorable Mention for "Sprawa Rusałki". For both recipients, these awards mean the start of further cooperation with Audioteka.

This year, New Production Talent was also selected. This title went to Maria Wolna and Dobromir Czerski for the film "Latin soap opera", directed by Anna Drozdek for DPD.

In addition, several other special prizes were awarded. In addition to the previously mentioned, Hubert Patynowski also won the MAKonLine: Special Selection and the Heliograph award for Remarkable Visual Sensitivity in partnership with his cinematographer, Hasenien Dousery. The Panavision award for Best Cinematography was awarded to Ben Holt for the film "Saturday morning", directed by Hanna Pikulska for Żabka. Last but certainly not least, the production “A significant mistake” for AGH received two awards – ATM System’s Special Selection award granted to director Bartłomiej Jakubiak, and Best Set Design to Aleksandra Kostulska and Kamila Bukańska.

This year's edition of Papaya Young Creators was exceptional and unique. It summed up a program that had been in operation for almost a decade. Today, the formula of the initiative addressed to young and creative people needs to be redefined, making this competition and gala the last of this version.
