Papaya Young Creators - how it works?

PAPAYA YOUNG CREATORS – HOW IT WORKS?
Papaya Young Creators is a unique competition and talent development program that annually recognizes the most promising creators, by enabling them to produce outstanding projects with an additional benefit of wide promotion.
To participate in the initiative:
  • log in to the participant panel
  • familiarize yourself with the categories and creative starters that present the tasks prepared by the main partners
  • write your idea for a film – a treatment based on the brief of a given brand or artist
  • submit your work via the participant panel by February 28, 2022
  • ...await the jury's verdict and if you qualify for further stages, take part in the mentoring program and produce your film!

    FIRST STEP – THE IDEA

When the competition is launched all the creative starters – briefs from the brands and artists taking part in the competition – will be available in the panel. Based on one of these, an idea (treatment) for a film for a partner brand (in the case of Branded Stories, Mobile Stories, TikTok categories) or a music video (in the case of artists) should be written. At Papaya Young Creators we value unrestrained creativity and bold ideas, therefore none of the main partners has any influence on the selection of the submitted ideas or the final shape of the films. For all those for whom this is a new way of describing an idea, we have prepared a treatment template. If you want to prepare a treatment from a scratch, you can do so, but remember to stick to all the points from the template and do include any personal data. The projects in the competition are submitted anonymously. Entries are free of charge.

    WHO CAN SUBMIT A TREATMENT?

The competition is addressed to all those who have a need for creative expression, are observers and consumers of content, who are film, animation, music, culture and art lovers. Creativity can take many names and dimensions, which is why at Papaya Young Creators we value an idea, a unique approach to topics and original responses to creative starters. The competition is open to 20-35-year-olds (born 1987-2002). Work can be submitted by individuals or in duos. The rules state that one person or duo can submit no more than three treatments for each category.

    SELECTION OF THE BEST WORK

After the submissions close, the treatments are evaluated by a jury of several dozen members, consisting of specialists from the film and advertising industry and well-known celebrities from the world of media, culture and art. The jury groups work on their assigned partners and categories. The most important evaluation criteria are: presenting an engaging story with an original insight, telling the story in the most creative, non-standard and experimental way possible, and providing a coherent vision of the presented world, which must be visible at the level of all film elements: image, light, sound, location, actors, music.

SEMI-FINAL – MEETINGS WITH THE JURY, SHOOTING BOARDS AND FURTHER WORK ON THE IDEAS

The authors of the best treatments selected by the jury are invited to the next stages. One of these is a meeting with members of the jury group. The aim here is to take a closer look at the idea, its assumptions, and possible proposals for production solutions. The jury may ask a semi-finalist to continue working on their idea. Within the indicated deadline, a shooting board and an updated treatment should be sent via the participant's panel. At this stage, the semi-finalists participate in a workshop program that equips them with knowledge on, among other things: development of their idea, further stages in terms of organization and production, and preparation for the production of the film in new categories.

FINAL – MENTORING, FINANCIAL AND PRODUCTION SUPPORT

After reviewing the materials, the jury selects a group of finalists. Each of them receives the first level award – financial support for film production. Apart from the budget, the finalists can count on the support of a dedicated mentor who accompanies them during the process of working on their project. They can also count on production support, a number of workshops and educational meetings, and contacts to supporting companies – rental companies, postproduction studios, casting agencies, companies providing location search services and insurance.

FURTHER LIFE OF THE COMPETITION PROJECTS

The competition experience will be crowned with an official premiere of the films, followed a few days later by the Final Gala, during which not only prizes will be given for the best films, as well as individual awards for best direction, cinematography, editing, costumes, set design, and production. Participation in the competition allows debuting talents to make a film for a big brand or artist, or to produce something on a socially important topic. The choice of category and subject matter is up to the participants. When qualifying for the finals of Papaya Young Creators and thus producing their idea, the finalists have a chance to reach a wide audience with their project. The main partners supporting the initiative can use the films created for them for 12 months on the Internet. In addition, the film can be submitted to many other festivals and competitions, both by the competition team and the filmmakers. One of the goals of Papaya Young Creators is to create a unique platform for collaboration among brands, artists and talents. We give the finalists creative freedom and provide conditions for cooperation based on the knowledge and experience of the professionals involved in the initiative. Thanks to the support of our partners, the final films have the chance of reaching a wide audience and gaining promotion through broadcasting on various platforms as well as through extensive communication.
